Growing up in Dallas, Texas, Dr. Vielma always enjoyed helping people. The oldest of four, he was the first person in his family to attend college. Two of his siblings have since gone on to become a pediatrician and a mechanical engineer. He has always enjoyed the outdoors, and started working at a paddle boat and bicycle rental place when he was just 12 years old. He was also an Eagle Scout and an altar boy for 6 years, while his mom taught Sunday school.
Outside of work, Dr. Vielma enjoys working out, playing piano, experiencing the outdoors, spending time with his two dogs, Matisse and Picasso and playing with his niece and nephew. He also volunteers his services with the lion club where he sees 30 to 40 kids at once to provide eye exams. He has been doing this for over 10 years. He also volunteers at the kids church, dressing up as a dog or disco danny, performing skits. He and his wife also give financial assistance to children who otherwise couldn’t afford to go to summer camp.
When asked about his family, Dr. Vielma relates:
“I have an awesome wife who helps me run my practice. Without her help, I could never be efficient in running my practice. She looks after me and has been a great blessing in my life. I have wonderful siblings who have made my life wonderful. They are always there for me. My mom passed away 5 years ago, but has and continues to be my biggest inspiration. She has instilled in me the determination to always be nice, respectful and do your best. My dad has been there for me as well. He helped me financially with college. I will always be indebted to him.”
